Ranch style homes are a dime a dozen in Southern California. But one ranch in Palm Springs is anything but ordinary thanks to the help of residential architectural design practice Hundred Mile House.
Designers envisioned something more eclectic than the original L-shaped home. However, they still wanted to maintain the unique character of the original structure while upgrading the home to be more energy efficient, spacious, and functional.
In addition to a complete renovation, square footage was more than doubled due to an expansion. The project added a new swimming pool and outdoor patio, which connects to the living area. Each bedroom also received a dedicated terrace, helping to connect the home to the outdoors.
The material palette was inspired by the desert – raw, harsh, but minimal. That helped to guide designers in keeping the home feel rustic, warm, and inviting.
