One of the most highly anticipated flagship phones was unveiled today. Samsung has officially taken the wraps off of its Galaxy S8, showing that it’s committed to moving past the troubles surrounding its ill-fated Note 7 and back to making the one of the best Android devices available.
The latest generation Galaxy flagship is taller than the S7 and sports the new Infinity Display, which wraps around the sides and nearly eliminates the entire bezel. With more screen real estate, the home button now is within the software, as opposed to the presence of a physical button. There’s still a fingerprint scanner, but that’s been moved to the back of the device.
Samsung promises that the 12-megapixel f1.7 camera is it’s best setup ever, even in instances where there’s very little light. The front-facing 8-megapixel camera features Smart Auto Focus which tracks faces and ensures crisp selfies.
The bodies of the 5.8″ S8 and 6.2″ S8+ are now almost entirely made of durable Gorilla glass, lending a premium look and feel. Durable is also assured, and these phones are even water and dirt resistant.
Powering this device is a new Qualcomm-sourced octa-core processor, which Samsung will have exclusively for the launch. It also boasts a new virtual assistant named Bixby that gets a dedicated button on the side. If you want to learn about a product or place, want to find a restaurant nearby, or even need to translate a document, you can turn to Bixby to get quick answers and help.
Other features include a USB-C connector, wireless charging, and a 3.5mm auxiliary port.
Pre-orders are starting as early as tomorrow for both 5.8- or 6.2-inch models in black, silver, or gray.
