This remarkable house in Watsonville, California was purchased by a family of five as a retreat from the city. Fuse Architects carefully designed the home to take advantage of the ocean’s proximity, opening up the walls and providing framed views of the coastline. A dark cedar exterior was used to ground the home within the surrounding dunes while a contrasting natural cedar accentuated the point of entry. The interior was kept minimal, emphasizing natural outdoor landscaping.
To re-envision the house, a light-filled space was created with views from the inside to the ocean and dunes. White plaster was used for the interior, allowing natural light to disperse throughout from a central skylight over the kitchen.
