Dolby Labs has always been about creating cinema-quality visual and audio technology. Whether that be licensing technologies like Dolby Vision HDR or Dolby Atmos, the company has been about getting behind hardware brands to create a richer entertainment experience at home.
For the first time, Dolby is offering its own take on audio hardware with its new Dimension Headphones, which have been designed specifically for binge watching in the living room. LifeMix technology lets listeners decide how much ambient sound they want to hear, letting them focus on their show while not cutting them off from their surroundings entirely. As with its Atmos technology, Dolby Dimension headphones are intended to deliver cinema-like sound, and dedicated buttons on the right earcup make switching between sources a breeze. They’re powered by custom 40mm drives, ship with a wireless Power Base charger, and allow for custom calibration through a companion app.
Dolby’s first wireless headphones are certainly attractive for audiophiles that want to enjoy the best experience possible when watching movies at home — without waking up the neighbors. However, that experience isn’t going to come cheap, as they’re priced at $600.
