BMW’s bringing more instrumentation above the steering wheel with their ‘Panoramic Vision’ display. This is a new take on a heads-up display, stretching across the whole width of the windscreen. The goal is to allow drivers and passengers to view the crucial data without having to look away from the road.
The Panoramic Vision display allows drivers to select what they would like to be seen, such as speed, time, and a song that’s playing. Unlike a normal HUD, BMW’s concept has a brightly lit screen set against a dark backdrop to make information easier to read while driving.
At CES 2023 in January, BMW suggested the possibility of a new heads-up display when they introduced the i Vision Dee concept. The original idea was to have the information projected onto the windshield. However, the Panoramic Vision display is an elevated section across the bottom of the windshield.
No word on when Panoramic Vision will hit the market, but we expect it to be a few years away from making its way into a production vehicle.
