Imagine a home designed to seamlessly blend into the majesty of the Teton Range. That was the task of Lever Architecture in creating the Alta House, a stunning vacation residence nestled in the Wyoming town of Alta.
Crafted for a nature-loving couple from Portland, the Alta House intended to be a place not just to stay in, but to be immersive. The L-shaped design, with its flat roof and rugged exterior of weathering steel and accoya wood, reflects the surrounding mountains, creating a sense of harmony with the landscape. It’s a conscious decision by the designers – the house is built to withstand the harsh Wyoming winters while celebrating the breathtaking views.
Inside, the home is warm and inviting thanks to light streams through expansive windows, blurring the lines between indoors and outdoors. The main living areas are deliberately oriented towards the Tetons, offering a constant reminder of the natural beauty that surrounds the home.
The clever layout prioritizes both connection and privacy. The ground floor houses communal spaces, guest quarters, and storage for all your outdoor gear. A spacious terrace with a sheltered jacuzzi beckons for relaxation under the starlit sky. Ascend the black metal staircase, and you’ll find the private sanctuary of the upper floor. Here, the master suite, an office, a sauna, and a gym offer the perfect blend of luxury and functionality. A long balcony stretches along the upper level, providing yet another opportunity to soak in the breathtaking vistas.
The Alta House boasts top-notch energy efficiency thanks to a super-insulated envelope, triple-pane windows, and an energy-recovery ventilation system. These details ensure year-round comfort while also minimizing the home’s environmental impact.
Sharp lines, breathtaking views. The Alta House epitomizes the modern mountain retreat.
