Alfa Romeo is hoping to double sales with the introduction of a second SUV, the Tonale. Shown for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show, the compact Tonale will be slotted just below the Stelvio in the Italian automaker’s growing lineup.
Two powertrains will be available including a plug-in hybrid with a 180-horsepower turbocharged 1.3-liter inline-four cylinder engine powering the front wheels with a 121-hp electric motor mounted on the rear axle. The system sends a combined output of 272 horsepower to all four wheels. The Tonale PHEV uses a six-speed automatic transmission and Alfa Romeo promises over 30 miles of electric driving range.
There will also be a gas-only powertrain featuring a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that can produce 256 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque.
Alfa Romeo promises plenty of tech inside with a 10.25″ center display and a 12.3″ dashboard display, an Android-powered infotainment system, wireless CarPlay and wireless Android Auto, Alexa integration, an array of driver assistance systems, including systems lending a semi-autonomous driving experience.
The Alfa Romeo Tonale is scheduled to arrive in the first quarter of 2023.
