Subaru has announced it’s long awaited redesign of its affordable sports car, the 2022 BRZ. The rear-wheel drive 2+2 will be the lightest production sports car available in America when it goes on sale, and boasts a sleeker, more aggressive design. Once again, power comes from a boxer engine, a new 2.4-liter naturally aspirated power plant producing 228 horsepower. Not only does the engine have more output that it’s predecessor, it also sits lower in the car’s chassis to allow for a lower center of gravity than the previous model.
Buyers will be able to opt for either a six-speed manual or an available six-speed automatic with Sport mode that brings quicker downshifts with automatic rev-matching. Practicality has also been improved with enough cargo room for golf clubs and the cabin has been fully updated with a 7-inch customizable digital dashboard, an eight-inch infotainment screen, CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, Subaru’s EyeSight Driver Assist Technology on select models, and a driver-focused interior layout. The new BRZ will be available next fall.
