BMW’s M5 has continually set the bar for how stealthy high-performance sedans should look and perform with every generation. Now, it appears BMW has done it again with the M5 Competition–the most powerful M5 in the model’s history.
This new model boasts a 4.4-liter V8 with TwinPower Turbo technology that produces a staggering 617 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque. This powerplant will help launch the M5 to 60 mph from a standstill in just 3.1 seconds, or to 124 mph in just 10.8 seconds, before reaching a top speed of 155 mph (or 189 mph when the optional M Driver’s Package has been added).
Other high-performance mechanicals include an eight-speed M Steptronic automatic transmission and a rear-wheel-biased intelligent all-wheel-drive.
The new M5 will also have a number of exclusive cosmetic changes to set it apart, including high-gloss black finishers on the door handles, mirror bases, and mirror triangles, as well as the mirror caps, grille, and window surrounds. Other features include special M-striped seat belts, a model-specific M Sport exhaust system, and lightweight M compound brakes and optional M carbon-ceramic brakes.
The 2019 BMW M5 Competition Sedan will carry a starting price of $110,995 when it arrives later this year.
